Moving can be a stressful time for anyone. To make it easier, we’ve come up with a few basic guidelines to make the process easier. Follow these steps-  before, during, and after your big move into a new house, apartment or condo.
Before you move:
  • Set the date. Be sure to set the date about a month in advance so that you can plan and pack ahead of time.
  • Hire a moving company. You should hire a moving company that you can get references for so that you can trust your belongings will be protected.
  • Take inventory and get rid of junk. Moving is much easier when you are organized. Be sure to keep track of all of your belongings and where you pack them. It is also much easier to move when you get rid of unnecessary items. Try to get rid of junk that tends to build up in your previous home.
  • Get supplies & pack. Make sure you get plenty of packing materials; boxes, tape and packaging material. It’s also crucial to label your boxes so that they do not get mixed up in your travels.
During the move:
  • Start & Stop services. A few days before you move or the day you move, you should prepare your electric and utilities. Be sure to cancel your current electric and utilities and to start them again at your new place.
  • Notify friends, work and family of new address. It’s important to tell people your new address so that your mail gets sent to you. You should also leave a forwarding address at your previous home just in case mail does get sent there.

After the move:
  • Unpack! Try to give yourself a few days to completely unpack before you start your daily routine again. It’s much to unpack when you don’t have any other worries!
