Today Condo.com, Houses.com and Property.com are the World’s Largest Marketplaces for Real Estate

In a recent interview conducted by DomainSherpa.com, Richard Swerdlow – CEO of Condo.com, Houses.com, and Property.com – discusses how he built leading online real estate portals through the acquisition and development of three category-domain killers. He shares the current business model that was able to propel his Company into one of the world’s leading public listing sites for real estate online. Currently, Condo.com, Houses.com and Property.com showcase over 25 million properties for sale, rent and vacation in the United States and 70+ countries around the world. The impending release of Property.com this month allows the Company to expand into the global commercial real estate market, thus providing another avenue for buyers, sellers and real estate professionals to connect online.

Richard Swerdlow’s journey into the online marketplace world began in the mid ‘90s when he started his first profitable online venture, Everything Wireless, capitalizing on the rapid growth of mobile communications. The e-commerce site focused on the sale of mobile handsets and was eventually sold to Federated Department Stores in 1999. Upon the exit from the retail sector, Swerdlow decided to move into the business of monetizing information, eventually landing on the current concept that makes his current operation successful today. Like all stories of entrepreneurship, the development of Condo.com is one of perseverance, but ultimately, of success. “The key to success is to not stop…learn and continue to move forward,” stated Swerdlow in his interview. “The opposite of failure is perseverance…And, we figured out the model, and how it works,” he added. Houses.com and Property.com are proof that the business model works, and further demonstrate the benefit of investing in a category domain name.

Three Takeaway’s from Richard Swerdlow’s Interview:

  1. Focus on Information to Build Scale

  2. Investing Upfront Pays off Over the Life of the Brand
  3. Even a Category-killer Domain Name Needs Time to Grow
